Short Takes on People, Places and Events

Spelman College professor and long-time public relations consultant Jane Bick has a new passion: helping out teachers in money-strapped schools. Jane's brother alerted her to a Web site, iLoveSchools.com, that matches donors with teachers in need. Impressed with the program, she offered to be a resource - and ended up on their national board. "When people donate, even something small, the kids are getting a life lesson, that there are grownups who care about them. You can send money, materials, whatever you can afford, even soap, tissues and paper towels. And it's tax-deductible."
