I LOVE SCHOOLS, INC. LAUNCHES UNIQUE MATCHMAKING SERVICE
Web-based Non-Profit Connects Teachers With Donations of Classroom
Materials
SAN DIEGO, CA (Jan. 22) – Jerry Hall, president of I Love
Schools, Inc., wants to improve the quality of schools, so he founded
www.iLoveSchools.com to help teachers reduce or eliminate their
out-of pocket expenses. The web site matches potential donors with
educators who post requests for teaching supplies. Teacher requests
range from inexpensive boxes of markers or Crayons and even Kleenex
for students’ winter sniffles to larger gifts of computers
or AV equipment.
In the seven months since its birth, iLoveSchools.com has registered
several thousand of the 3.5 million teachers across the nation.
A 2003 study by the National Education Association showed that American
public school teachers spend an average of $443 of their own money
each year to meet their students’ needs. Educators are now
eligible for a $250 Federal tax credit, which does not usually cover
all of their expenses.
Gifts from donors through the website range from computer software
to an alto saxophone with sheet music. Gwendolyn Thomas, a reading
facilitator at Baldwin Elementary School in Baldwin, LA, welcomed
more than 30 binders from one donor.
“We received the binders within 3-4 days following our contact
[with the donor]. The binders have been distributed and put to very
good use as a means for organizing classroom instructional materials.
The teachers were very surprised, pleased and grateful,” said
Thomas.
I Love Schools, Inc., a non-profit organization based in San Diego,
CA, was founded in June 2003 by Jerry Hall of eWebLab.com,
